Introduction

Pikachu is among the best Electric-types in Petit Cup for its Speed and access to a myriad of coverage options, including Surf and Submission. With solid mixed attacking potential and among the fastest Thunder Waves in the format, Pikachu is capable of playing early or late-game, making it fairly flexible in the teambuilder and Team Preview alike. Pikachu ties Meowth, Poliwag and notably Abra in Speed, which gives it decent matchups against all of them.

While versatile, Pikachu suffers from a few issues. It's extremely frail with nearly no physical bulk to speak of, making it difficult to use against threats like Charmander and Diglett, the latter of which outspeeds it. Pikachu tends to suffer from minor 4MSS as well, often having to make room for Substitute at the cost of its physical attacking potential. Pikachu is often incapacitated by paralysis as well, as this takes away its potential to paralyze threats before they get a Substitute. It usually has to play a 50/50 against other Pikachu due to this, either using Substitute to try and protect from Thunder Wave, or trying to play the Speed tie and paralyze the opposing one before they get Substitute up. However, these minor setbacks don't detract from Pikachu's incredible role in Petit Cup, often lending it the title of best Electric-type.

Level: 27
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- Substitute
</set>

Set Details

The given level takes Pikachu out of Dragon Rage 2HKO range. Thunder Wave, coming from Pikachu's Speed, usually allows it to paralyze a threat before it can get a Substitute up. However, against threats like opposing Pikachu, Abra and Poliwag, this only works half the time due to Speed ties. Thunderbolt and Surf blend to make for amazing coverage, with STAB Thunderbolt dealing excellent damage to most Pokemon while Surf covers its checks. Substitute helps Pikachu fill a potential lead role in Team Preview, protecting from paralysis while having one of the fastest Thunder Waves itself. It also helps give Pikachu more safety, as Substitute allows it to often take otherwise lethal hits.

Pikachu is very flexible playstyle-wise. Pikachu can be utilized as an effective lead to get paralysis off out of the gate, or can be used to clean up the opposing team after they've been sufficiently damaged.
